Was the Sabbath command established in Genesis 2:1-3 ? No
God completed His work which he had done and rested on the seventh day (Gen 2:2) God didn’t rest because he was tired. The meaning behind the word rest means stopped or ceased from working and doesn’t imply weariness.
Isaiah 40:28
Haven’t you heard that God the creator doesn’t grow tired or weary?
Jesus voluntarily took on the limitations of human flesh, therefore He got tired (Phil 2:5-11). But this same Jesus who slept in the boat also calmed the raging storm with the command of His voice, causing His disciples to ask themselves, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey Him!” (Mark 4:35-41)
God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it because this unique period in history was when God completed his work of creation. The seventh day was a memorial to His creation. Seven is the symbolic number of completion. At this point in history nothing is said about this seventh day being a day of worship. There is no command for people to rest on the seventh day. There is no Sabbath law given to Adam, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, or Joseph.
The word Sabbath comes from the Hebrew word (shabbat) which means “to cease”. The Sabbath is the day that regular labor ceased. The first time the Sabbath is mentioned is in Exodus 16:26 when Moses tells the Israelites to gather manna for six days but not to gather manna on the seventh day. Then we see God’s fourth commandment in Exodus 20:9 to work six days and rest on the seventh. Exodus 20:11 shows that the Sabbath is rooted in the model of Genesis 2:2, which established the pattern for man’s work cycle. In Ex 20:8 we see the Sabbath was the day devoted rest & worship.

The Sabbath is a Sign
The Sabbath is a Sign
Deuteronomy 5:12
Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy, as the Lord your God commanded you.
Out of the 10 commandments, the only commandment that is a sign is #4. The Lord said to Moses, “Above all you are to keep my sabbaths, for this is a sign between me and you throughout your generations. That you may know that I, the Lord, sanctify you. Everyone who profanes it shall be put to death. (Ex 31:13-14) What do signs do? They point you to something. Sabbath is a sign or symbol that points to something else. Like this sign in the Mosaic covenant, we also see a sign of the rainbow given to Noah (Gen 9:12-13) and the sign of circumcision given to Abraham (Gen 17:10-11).
Galatians 5:1-6
For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. Look: I, Paul, say to you that if you accept circumcision, Christ will be of no advantage to you. I testify again to every man who accepts circumcision that he is obligated to keep the whole law. 4 You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace. For through the Spirit, by faith, we ourselves eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love.
Exodus 5:5
Again Pharaoh said, “Look, the people of the land are now many, and you would have them cease from their labors!”
Ex 5:5 does not refer to the sabbath. The same Hebrew word is used in Isaiah 13:11 So I will punish the world for its evil the wicked for their wrongdoing; I will also put an end to the audacity of the proud,. This context has nothing to do with the Sabbath.
Did Jesus break the Sabbath? No
The Pharisees accused Jesus and his disciples of breaking the Sabbath when they were picking heads of grain on the Sabbath. Jesus responded by citing how David ate consecrated bread that was unlawful and that priests in the temple break the Sabbath but were innocent. Jesus then said he was Lord of the Sabbath. (Matt 12:1-8) If the priests were innocent for “breaking” the Sabbath how much more is God innocent for “breaking” the Sabbath?
Dt 23:25
If you go into your neighbor's standing grain, you may pluck the ears with your hand, but you shall not put a sickle to your neighbor's standing grain.
Jesus intentionally drew attention to the Sabbath time and time again by disregarding the oral law of the Jews that had developed. The Pharisees believed Jesus broke the sabbath after healing a man on the Sabbath, although there was no law against it. (Luke 14:1-6). Jesus told the Pharisees that the Sabbath was made for man, and that man was not made for the Sabbath. (Mark 2:27). The Sabbath was meant to be a blessing to man, not a burden. The additional regulations that the Pharisees put on top of the law to guard themselves from breaking the Sabbath made it a burden.
Jesus deliberately healed on the Sabbath to provoke a confrontation with the religious hypocrites. On the Sabbath Jesus told a crippled man to pick up his pallet (a straw mat that could be rolled up) and walk. To carry a pallet on the Sabbath was seen as work to the Jews. Jesus was encouraging him to “break” the Sabbath while healing him at the same time. Jesus could have healed the man on the following day but intentionally wanted to bring attention to the Sabbath. Jesus was including himself in “breaking” the Sabbath. Jesus responded by saying, “My Father is working until now, and I myself am working.” Jesus was claiming to be God and to be working; a double counter punch (John 5:1-17). Although the Father, Son & Holy Spirit ceased from their work in creation (Gen 2:2), they constantly sustain the universe. The Jews rightly understood Jesus was claiming to be God. Jesus could not break the law because He was the spotless Lamb, the perfect sacrifice once and for all.
Hebrews 9:24-26
For Christ has entered, not into holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true things, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf. Nor was it to offer himself repeatedly, as the high priest enters the holy places every year with blood not his own, for then he would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.
Are Christians Under The Law ? No
Are Christians Under The Law ? No
Galatians 3:23-25
But before faith came, we were kept in custody under the Law, being confined for the faith that was destined to be revealed. Therefore the Law has become our guardian to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian.
The law is the guardian that Christians are no longer under, but still remains the school master that brings unbelievers to Christ.
Romans 3:19-20
Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
Jews and Muslims I have spoken to talk about getting the best score possible so that when they die they might pass the test and go to heaven. But the requirement of the law is not that we do our best but that we score 100% and nobody has kept that score. So to be under the law means to be judged by the law.
Romans 10:4
Christ is the end of the Law for righteousness to everyone who believes.
Galations 3:10-14
For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse; for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them.” But that no one is justified by the law in the sight of God is evident, for “the just shall live by faith.” Yet the law is not of faith, but “the man who does them shall live by them.” Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
Christians who have placed their trust in Jesus for salvation shouldn't still feel the need to do what has already been done for them. I’m not only referring to Roman Catholics, Jews or Muslims. There are also Protestants who hold to this idea that if they fall into a particular sin that they may lose their salvation as if it was something they actually earned. This is an unhealthy view of following the law to maintain salvation. Repentance flows from the reality that you are saved and are in the process of being sanctified to walk in the good works God has prepared for you.
Ephesians 2:8-10
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
If keeping the Sabbath isn't for Salvation, is it kept for sanctification? No
If keeping the Sabbath isn't for Salvation, is it kept for sanctification? No
Romans 6:14-15
For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace. What then? Are we to sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means!
The apostle Paul anticipates the response to his assertion. Likewise, when you share the Gospel with people, be prepared for the same response. Grace is not a license to sin. Christians are to live repentant lives. What are repenting from ? Are we repenting from wearing clothes mixed with wool & linen? Are we repenting from boiling a young goat in its mother’s milk? Are we repenting from eating pork? Are we repenting from not keeping the Saturday Sabbath ? Are Sabbath keepers to stone those who don’t keep the Sabbath? (Ex 31:14) Legalism could be hazardous to your health. When sharing the Gospel it would be silly to raise these issues because nobody would relate to it. We use the moral law to show the need for grace. In our filthy rags, we can’t be perfect as our heavenly Father is perfect. We must be clothed in the righteousness of Christ. How did Jesus communicate this?
Matthew 5:21-48
“You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.’ 22 But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire. 23 So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24 leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. 25 Come to terms quickly with your accuser while you are going with him to court, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison. 26 Truly, I say to you, you will never get out until you have paid the last penny. 27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell. 31 “It was also said, ‘Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.’ 32 But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery. 33 “Again you have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform to the Lord what you have sworn.’ 34 But I say to you, Do not take an oath at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God, 35 or by the earth, for it is his footstool, or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. 36 And do not take an oath by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black. 37 Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything more than this comes from evil. 38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ 39 But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. 40 And if anyone would sue you and take your tunic,[h] let him have your cloak as well. 41 And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. 42 Give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you. 43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? 48 You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
The Clear Word Bible (CWB) is a Seventh Adventist Paraphrase Bible. It alters the text to support their view. The fact that they have to alter texts speaks volumes.
Romans 14:5 ESV
One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind.
Romans 14:5
CWB The same thing applies to religious festivals. One person thinks he has to keep every Jewish festival, while another thinks those days are no different from other days. About nonessentials like these, everyone needs to make up his own mind.
Nothing in the context is about festivals (which are yearly). “All days” include the Sabbath.
Col 2:16 ESV
Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath.
Col 2:16 CWB
Don’t let anyone control your life by giving you a set of ceremonial rules about what to eat, what to drink and which monthly festivals or special sabbaths to keep.
A festival is yearly. A new moon is monthly. The Sabbath is weekly. Yet the CWB changes it to “special sabbaths” to support their view of the Saturday Sabbath.
Ephesians 2:14-16
For He Himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility.
Jesus alone is our peace. The divided wall alludes to the dividing wall in the temple that partitioned off the Court of the Gentiles from the areas accessible only to Jews. Paul referred to the wall as symbolic of the social, religious, and spiritual separation that kept Jews and Gentiles apart. Through His death, Christ abolished OT ceremonial laws, feasts, and sacrifices which uniquely separated Jews from Gentiles. God’s moral law was not abolished but is echoed in the New Covenant because it reflects God’s holy nature. The law was abolished, but we see 9 of the commandments reinstituted in the New Covenant.
Hebrews 8:13
When He said, “A new covenant,” He has made the first obsolete. But whatever is becoming obsolete and growing old is about to disappear.
Obsolete: no longer used; out of date. Soon after the book of Hebrews was written, the temple was destroyed marking the end of the age of the Levitical system.
Matthew 19:16-22
And behold, a man came up to him, saying, “Teacher, what good deed must I do to have eternal life?” And he said to him, “Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good. If you would enter life, keep the commandments.” He said to him, “Which ones?” And Jesus said, “You shall not murder, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother, and, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” The young man said to him, “All these I have kept. What do I still lack?” Jesus said to him, “If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” When the young man heard this he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.
Jesus brought attention to God’s moral horizontal law: murder/hate, adultery/the wandering eye, stealing/coveting, lying, honoring parents, and loving people. Jesus could see the heart of the young man and then moved to the vertical law. The young man was breaking the 1st commandment, you shall have no gods before me. His idol was wealth. When this was revealed the young man went away sorrowful. It is very unlikely that we will engage in golden calf worship. It is more likely that we have put other idols before God such as wealth and ambition,
Matthew 22:35-40
And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”
The rabbis had determined that there were 613 commandments, some weightier than others. Jesus started with vertical law quoting the first part of the Shema (Dt 6:4-9) that Jews recited every morning and evening. “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. (Modern day interpretations of the number of the beast have been: Covid vaccines, micro chips, bar codes or Sunday as the day of worship. 1st Century Jews would have understood this as a non-literal mark. You are marked by what you believe and what you do. When you share the Gospel you know how one is marked as you engage in discussion. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. Jesus then moved horizontally quoting from Leviticus 19:18, You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.
Romans 13:19
For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,” and any other commandment, are summed up in this word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
Galatians 5:19-26
Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: sexual immorality, impurity, indecent behavior, idolatry, witchcraft, hostilities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Now those who belong to Christ Jesus crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let’s follow the Spirit as well. Let’s not become boastful, challenging one another, envying one another.
3 areas of human life: are addressed: sex, religion, and human relationships. When a Christian walks by the spirit, he needs no external law to produce the attitudes and behavior that please God. Although Sabbatarians claim that this is not a salvation issue, if you follow their reasoning they lead themselves down that road. In their eyes, by your lack of fruit of not following the law of Moses you show that you are not a true believer and not saved.
The Sign of the Sabbath points to Christ
Exodus 31:13
“Above all you are to keep my sabbaths, for this is a sign between me and you throughout your generations.”
Hebrews 4:1-10
Therefore, while the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us fear lest any of you should seem to have failed to reach it. 2 For good news came to us just as to them, but the message they heard did not benefit them, because they were not united by faith with those who listened.[a] 3 For we who have believed enter that rest, as he has said, “As I swore in my wrath, ‘They shall not enter my rest,’” although his works were finished from the foundation of the world. 4 For he has somewhere spoken of the seventh day in this way: “And God rested on the seventh day from all his works.” 5 And again in this passage he said, “They shall not enter my rest.” 6 Since therefore it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly received the good news failed to enter because of disobedience, 7 again he appoints a certain day, “Today,” saying through David so long afterward, in the words already quoted, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.” 8 For if Joshua had given them rest, God[b] would not have spoken of another day later on. 9 So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, 10 for whoever has entered God's rest has also rested from his works as God did from His.
Albert Barnes writes “It is called "my rest" here; meaning that it was such rest as God had provided, or such as he enjoyed. The particular rest referred to here was that of the land of Canaan, but which was undoubtedly regarded as emblematic of the "rest" in heaven. Into that rest God solemnly said they should never enter. They had been rebellious. All the means of reclaiming them had failed. God had warned and entreated them; he had caused his mercies to pass before them, and had visited them with judgments in vain; and he now declares, that for all their rebellion they should be excluded from the promised land.”
This earthly rest was a shadow of a heavenly rest, the promise of salvation that God gives to those who put their trust in Him. If you have put your trust in Christ you are resting in Him and no longer cling to the shadow. The moral laws in the commandments are also found in the New Testament except the 4th commandment.
Romans 13:8-10
Owe nothing to anyone except to love one another; for the one who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the Law. For this, “You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,” and if there is any other commandment, it is summed up in this saying, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the Law.
Galatians 6:1-2
Brothers and sisters, even if a person is caught in any wrongdoing, you who are spiritual are to restore such a person in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you are not tempted as well. Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ.
The Jerusalem Council
Acts 15:19-21
Therefore my judgment is that we should not trouble those of the Gentiles who turn to God, 20 but should write to them to abstain from the things polluted by idols, and from sexual immorality, and from what has been strangled, and from blood. 21 For from ancient generations Moses has had in every city those who proclaim him, for he is read every Sabbath in the synagogues.”
We should not trouble the Gentiles with keeping the law and and observing the rituals. Jews who converted to Christianity felt compelled to keep dietary laws.. Gentile Christians were advised to be careful with their "freedom In Christ" as could make Jewish Christians follow the same pattern and violate their consciences as they progressively grow in truth. . James addressed pagan practices: food offered to pagan gods/idols (breaking the 1st & 2nd commandments) food sold after the fact in butcher shops indirectly would also be offensive to the Jews. That should be avoided. What is strangled and from blood points to dietary restrictions. These things were offensive to Jews who were still practicing dietary laws. Jewish converts were not told to stop dietary restrictions under the New Covenant. Four Groups of people in Acts 15: Jerusalem Council, Circumcision Party, Saved Pharisees, & New Gentile Converts who haven't repented from their pagan practices. Is there a clear passage in the book of Acts where Gentile converts are told to follow the Law of Moses ?
1 Timothy 4:4
For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving; for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.
1 Cor 8:9-13
But beware lest somehow this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to those who are weak. For if anyone sees you who have knowledge eating in an idol’s temple, will not the conscience of him who is weak be emboldened to eat those things offered to idols? And because of your knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died? But when you thus sin against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ. Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will never again eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble.
Sexual immorality and orgies were connected with the worship of pagan gods (breaking the 1st, 2nd and 7th commandments).
Every Sabbath Jewish Christians continued to meet. There is no instruction here for them to stop meeting on the Sabbath.
Galatians 4:9-11
Why do you turn back to the weak and worthless elemental things to which you desire to be enslaved all over again? You observe days and months and seasons and years.”
Paul is speaking of the Sabbaths and festivals of the Mosaic system.
Colossians 2:16
“No one is to act as your judge regarding food, drink, festivals, new moons or a Sabbath Day, things which are a mere shadow of what is to come.”
This is another perfect place for Paul to bring clarity to keeping the Sabbath if one must, but he says the opposite.
Did Peter and John continue in the Jewish customs and forms of worship?
Acts 3:1
Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour
They went into the temple to pray and participated in the first an last hour, which would include morning and evening sacrifices. Being under the New Covenant they believed the Lamb of God took away their sins. However, they still used this as an opportunity to share the Gospel with the Jews. Paul writes "to the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some." (1 Cor 9:22)
Exodus 29:9
One lamb you shall offer in the morning, and the other lamb you shall offer at twilight.
Acts 3:12
And when Peter saw it he addressed the people: “Men of Israel, why do you wonder at this, or why do you stare at us, as though by our own power or piety we have made him walk? 13 The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified his servant[a] Jesus, whom you delivered over and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release him. 14 But you denied the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you, 15 and you killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses. 16 And his name—by faith in his name—has made this man strong whom you see and know, and the faith that is through Jesus has given the man this perfect health in the presence of you all.
Did the Sabbath move to Sunday ? No
Did the Sabbath move to Sunday ? No
It is not wise to burn the candle at both ends and work seven days out of the week, although you may find yourself there for a season. This is not meant to be a regular pattern of life. So it is wise to take a day or two off from work to rest. Christians gather on Sunday as a family to worship and study the word. The Lord’s Day became the day that the New Testament church gathered in commemoration of Jesus’ resurrection. We continue to gather on Sunday today.
Rev 1:10
I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like the sound of a trumpet
Luke 24:1-3
But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.
John 20:19
Now when it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and when the doors were shut where the disciples were together due to fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst, and *said to them, “Peace be to you.”
1 Cor 16:1-2
Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I directed the churches of Galatia, so you are to do as well. On the first day of every week, each of you is to put aside and save as he may prosper, so that no collections need to be made when I come.
Acts 20:7
On the first day of the week, when we were gathered together to break bread,Paul began talking to them, intending to leave the next day, and he prolonged his message until midnight.
Acts 20:7 CWB (CWB translation changed Sunday to "Saturday night" to support SDA theology.)
After sundown on Saturday night, the believers got together for a fellowship meal and to say good-bye to Paul. That evening he spoke to them until midnight, after which he hoped to get a few hours sleep before leaving early Sunday morning.
Hebrews 10:24-25
And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
Here is the command to attend church. Even this can become a form of legalism. People can go to church as a ritual without having a firm hold of grace. Church attendance can become a false hope for salvation. Attend church and trust completely in Jesus. He is our only hope.
Peter builds on this understanding (1 Pet 2:24).
