Amputees
Amputees
Why Won't God heal amputees?
The atheist website whywontgodhealamputees.com, believes “it is dangerous to believe in God because it promotes irrational thinking.” The site reports 3 out of 4 doctors believe in the power of prayer. I have heard of similar stories where research was done; patients didn’t know they were being prayed for and still found that prayer works. With no mental manipulation involved, one couldn’t say patients were healed through the power of positive thinking (mind over matter).
So why won’t God heal amputees? We all know that amputated legs don’t grow back. Amputees get no miracles from God. Why? When God broke into time and space in human flesh through the person of Jesus Christ, this moment was marked by miracles to validate his claims. He proved himself to people in the 1st century, that he was God and this is what made the Christian faith spread so rapidly.
Miracles that you read about in the Bible are not normative today. They would like to see this miracle of limbs growing back because that would be the true test of the miraculous. If you have the flu and pray to get better and then you get better, this doesn't seem to be miraculous. After all, people get better from the flu all time the time. This is the norm in life. However, if miracles were normative they would cease to be miracles. The amputees argument is a good smoke screen to present to believers, so they can continue to hide in the darkness. Even if skeptics did witness amputees grow limbs back, if their hearts remain hard they still won't believe. Jesus affirms this in one of His parables.
Luke 16:31
If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.
John 3:19-21
This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God.”
Prayer is a line of communication between man and God. Sometimes our requests are answered with a "yes". Other times answered with a "no". God answers prayer 100% of the time when you pray according to his will. If you have physical limitations, this can be used as a blessing to others.
Peter builds on this understanding (1 Pet 2:24).
