What is the reason for this movement?

They believe that Christians have turned away from the true teachings of the bible. The culture and beliefs of Greek and Roman Philosophy have thrown the Christian church off track and they need to get back to the roots of the bible. In HRM (Hebrew Roots Movement) theology, the Old Testament takes priority over the New Testament.

How do they drag Christ through the mud?

HRM believe that Law trumps Grace. No one who is born of God practices sin (1 John 3:9) . A continual practice of not keeping the Sabbath and not keeping dietary restrictions shows that one is not truly born again.  Everyone who practices sin, practices lawlessness (1 John 3:4).

However, The real danger is not for Christians but rather for those in the HRM who have fallen from grace. Seeking to be justified by the law, they have been severed from Christ (Gal 5:4). These are the modern day Judaizers trying to cast doubt and confusion among true believers.

Was there a change in the Law ?

For when the priesthood is changed, of necessity there takes place a change of law also (Heb 7:12).

Which is the better Covenant?

Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant (Heb 7:22). Jesus has obtained a more excellent ministry, by as much as He is also the mediator of a better covenant, which has been enacted on better promises.

Does the New Covenant make the Old Obsolete?

When He said, “A new covenant,” He has made the first obsolete. But whatever is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to disappear.  It is no longer used (Heb 8:13).

Should we cling to the shadow or the substance?

No one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day – things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ.(Col 2:16-17)

Morality and Dietary

In the New Testament, the Apostle Paul had volumes to say about morality. To eat with the Judaizers and decline invitations to eat with the Gentiles would affirm dietary restrictions that God had abolished and thus striking a blow at the gospel of grace. This is why Paul corrected Cephas (Peter) and Barnabas. If it was moral to keep dietary laws, Paul wouldn’t have corrected them.

Sola Scriptura is a Latin phrase that means Scripture alone is authoritative for the faith and practice of the Christian and not the authority of the Church.
